Maths Programme Information

We are working on addition and subtraction and on learning our basic facts this term.

We are specifically focussing on:
  • Counting on from the largest number
  • Using doubles to solve addition and subtraction facts - 8+9 = 8+8=16+1=17...
  • Using tidy numbers to help us add and subtract 18+5 as 18+2=20 +3 more = 23
  • Jumping through tidy numbers 24+31 as 34, 44, 54 +1= 55

Every Monday some basic facts should come home in a notebook. This will start in week 3.
These facts are chosen based on a test we have done, some work in class and the goals that have been set. Please read the note at the back of the notebook.

Please try and work on these every day if possible. Sometimes they might be a little easy, but it is important that they are still practised.
The children need to recall these facts within 3-5 seconds (instantly).

It is also a great idea to revisit the previous basic facts that have been done.

It would be great if parents could help to remind their children to bring their notebooks back every Friday for their buddy tests.

Our school basic facts escalator is a great place to see where the basic facts that come home in their notebooks have come from. There are also some activities that are linked to the different areas that can support basic facts development -
Basic Facts Escalator.
